Moringa oleifera, also known as the miracle tree is native to Africa, Asia, and India, its leaves are rich in vitamins, minerals and other beneficial compounds that have traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine to help treat various illnesses; now people have been adding it to their diet because of the ability to assist in weight loss.
Compounds in moringa were found to reduce the formation of fat cells and promote their breakdown in a study published in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology, which may make moringa powder ideal for weight loss goals.
Anti-obesity effects of moringa have been studied when combined with other beneficial herbs and spices such as a study published in Lipids in Health and Disease that examined the effects of moringa combined with curry and turmeric supplements in 41 obese patients for 8 weeks that found regular intake of 900mg supplements helped to reduce weight by about 10.6 pounds.
The journal of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism published another similar study that involved 140 overweight adults who for 16 weeks took 900mg supplements of moringa that found the supplements helped subjects to lose about 11.9 pounds, and helped to raise good cholesterol levels while lowering bad cholesterol levels.
Consumption of moringa leaves has also been attributed to other benefits such as reducing blood sugar, urine sugar, cholesterol levels, treating inflammation, abnormal fluid retention, edema, promotes liver health, helps to prevent bacterial food infection, and helps to slow down the development of cancer cells thanks to its phenolic compounds quercetin and kaempferol.
